Initially, the Ron Burgundy we got to know was the same loud, brash, news anchor you also got to know, at least if you watched Anchorman. However, since getting our hands on his iPod, we were able to gain new insights into the man who caused rioting after reading the teleprompter text without giving any thought to what he was saying on air.
Everyone can agree; food is pretty damn amazing. You eat it, it tastes good, and it goes into your stomach keeping you alive and moving. Well, most food tastes good, at least if you’re not eating things you shouldn’t be.
But, it turns out that although food tastes good and will keep your body functioning, some is better for you than others. This might not be a ground breaking thing to say, but it just so happens that some food is addictive. You might have had a little chuckle at that, but we mean literally addictive. The process by which food is prepared often results in blood sugar spikes, which, if experienced often enough, can result in a physical addiction. [Read more…]
Before Stan Lee, comic books had a very distinct tone. Superheroes were faultless, righteous and generally more like untouchable Gods than actual humans. But with his influence starting in the 1960s, superheroes became more human than ever before, while still maintaining superhuman abilities. His characters were notable for facing every day life as well as world threatening villains, and an instant resonation was seen with fan bases.
So successful was his approach that he became one of Marvel’s primary creators for two whole decades, quickly resulting in him being a world recognised comic book face. Readers went out of their way to buy comics with his name on the cover, and it wasn’t long before Stan Lee and Marvel became synonymous. [Read more…]
So, you’ve had a long, stressful day. Your boss clearly intends on driving you to death via work overload, and the neighbour has once again parked his car on your lawn. But at least, with the sun long gone and office hours behind you, there is a good nights rest in store. A recharge you sorely need, given that tomorrow will likely deliver similar stress. There is an old saying that says one man’s meat is another man’s poison. Looking at food regarded as delicacies by some folks around the world, that adage is true in more ways than one.
The classic line can we keep him? really comes into play in a big way. Kids, their little hearts bleeding for a stray dog, approach parents with trembling lips and sparkling eyes, determined to convince a parent that “we’ll look after him, honest.” So, of course, the stray dog is adopted, only for mom and dad to land up looking after the mutt.
It’s not ideal, but be glad the kids didn’t bring home one of the following unusual pets instead. Because if you thought a stray dog was a royal pain in the backside, you haven’t seen anything yet. Take a look at some of the most bizarre animals that some people are crazy enough to allow into their homes. [Read more…]
You might have enjoyed an incredible meal at a restaurant and thought to yourself; I need to recreate this, and wow my friends. Only, upon trying to recreate the dish, you come up with nothing but a pale version of what you enjoyed and it seems to be somewhat lacking in something. Once again, you’re struck by the thought that it almost seems like professional chefs wield some sort of mystical culinary magic.
This is partly true. Though, it’s not that chefs wield mysterious kitchen magic, but rather that it is common in the world of food creation to find, and keep secret, a special ingredient. Why, you’re asking? Because why would you eat out at all, if it was simple to create restaurant grade food in your own kitchen? Sneaky. [Read more…]
There is a tale that, once upon a time in Hollywood, there was a movie that bombed so badly that upon numbers being released, the accountant’s screams could be heard for miles. Some even say that bankrupt investors went running through the streets, cursing and pulling at their hair, so bad were the losses. A terrible day indeed for the world of movie making, and proof that it really isn’t as easy as it looks to put together films with budgets of hundreds of millions. [Read more…]
I recall being a young boy, touring a natural history museum and being assaulted on all sides by an endless sea of impressive exhibits. Man was I bored. Sure, the dinosaur bones were cool, and I spent a great deal of time wondering just how difficult it would be to get a saddle onto a triceratops, but the rest of it really didn’t much appeal to the mind of a teenager. James Bond is a film icon that will apparently live on forever. Sure, he changes his face every decade or so, tends to sway back and forth in tone, giving the impression that he is at the least mildly bipolar, and has probably killed and blown up more people than a small war, but man, is he cool.
